Mounting a TV in Downtown Austin
Steel studs: a whole other animal
Most downtown towers frame their walls with light-gauge steel studs, not wood. A steel stud is a thin, hollow channel, so the lag bolts that bite into a wood stud have nothing to hold. I drill through the steel itself and use high-strength toggles that clamp onto the back of the stud, which matters even more with a full-motion arm putting leverage on the wall. Most of my installs so far have been in one downtown tower, so I've done this many times. It's the +$30 line on the price list.
Samsung Frame
The Frame is meant to sit flush like a picture. It has its own slim mount and a single thin cable, so placement matters. $199 for the first one.
Building rules
Some buildings want a certificate of insurance or set work hours. Put your building's rules in the booking notes and I'll check before the visit.
